Dr. Mehrdad Heidari, CEO and Co-finder of Shakhes Governance Think Tankspoke about four key roles of think tanksin the policymaking process during an interview at the booth of the Cyberspace Research Institute at the Tehran Book Fair. Emphasizing the importance of effective policymaking, he noted that its realization is only possible when issues are prioritized, thorough research is conducted, expert recommendations are provided, coordination among different actors is established, and genuine public participation is taken into account. Heidari stressed that the public should not merely be regarded as sources of information; rather, they should play an influential role as both the target and the driving force behind change in the decision-making process.
